Mini Trail Guide #29: Naturally, the loudest tiny hike I've ever been on!
An adventure of sounds and you'll love every minute of it
We tend to like quiet hikes where we can hear all the sounds of nature. And on the hike scouting for this week, we certainly got to hear all the sounds of nature. In this case, nature was LOUD! It was almost comical how loud, but it really made for some fun bird sightings and allowed us time to really “walk with our ears” in an adventure of sounds!
I have my editorial calendar set up for well into fall and winter, but no matter how hard I try to plan & prepare — it’s always necessary to switch things up at the last minute to make the hike for that week a perfect match for weather or that particular weekend.
This week, I got to thinking about Earth Day weekend and how a lot of our regular tiny hike spots might be pretty full of people and events. Let me run down a few of them — and pair with the trail guides in case you decide to give back to a volunteer event or attend a celebration:
Event: Earth Day at the Bay in Newport Beach (pair with Trail Guide #13)
Event: Earth Day Fair in Huntington Beach (rattlesnake season so don’t do Trail Guide #16, instead pair with Trail Guide #4)
Event: Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration in Mission Viejo (pair with Trail Guide #19)
Event: Shipley Nature Center Earth Day Worm Composting presentation (pair with Trail Guide #11)
So I tried to pick a hike for this week that is a little away from it all, especially if you go early! We went on a weekday at 7am and it was just BEAUTIFUL! Such a pretty time of day. You can go later, but once you get past 8am or 9am it will really start filling up, but there should still be plenty of parking.
