I always like for you to discover someplace or something new when you take a tiny hike. When I feel like “everyone” knows about a trail location already, I try to reassure myself that even if you’ve been to this spot — then maybe you haven’t been in Spring? Or maybe you haven’t been lately? Nature changes things and that’s what makes these tiny hikes so fun for me!
I feel like these tiny hikes are a journey of rediscovery for myself — as much as a mission to observe so I can share with you. I get immersed in the nature connections — and I find I’m enjoying it even more than expected. But more than that, I always discover something unexpected.
For this tiny hike, we saw an opossum for the first time since we began scouting these hikes! And I saw all these buds on the plants! Do you know what’s coming next? Maybe by the time you hike? And, aren’t they beautiful just as they are?
All of these closed buds are going to open into “fried egg flower” blooms called Matilija Poppies. It is going to just be an explosion of delicate crepe-like white and yellow petals VERY soon.
So even though you might have already been to this trail, maybe you haven’t seen a sea of poppies? And that leaves me feeling hopeful for new discoveries in familiar places.
