Mini Trail Guide #22: A view-filled canyon with bridges and "waterfalls"
Plus 9 trail guides with paved trails for wet weekends
There’s a new ability inside Substack where you can DM (Direct Message) me from this weekly newsletter which is kinda fun! Want to play with it? You may need to be logged into Substack? But try it from here and we can learn how it works together. Send me anything and I’ll see how easy (or hard) it is to respond!
If it’s a pain then just hit “Reply” to this newsletter and let me know it’s a pain via email!
A Fun Flower Story?
Remember this photo from last week’s tiny hike?
I was fascinated by this flower. The color is really striking! I can’t really recall seeing one before. I don’t always take the time to look up names. Does it really matter? It’s okay for it to just be a pretty thing that made me curious without knowing everything about it. So I never did. But THEN I went to a Trader Joe’s I don’t normally go to and I saw this!
What??? Could it be my flower? I’d have to wait until I got home when I would have time to compare. But I snapped this photo to remember the name. (See they come in cream/white!)
If you Google it, you’ll find out that the common name is Lenten Rose because they start to bloom at the same time Lent starts and blooms last February through May.
Just thought I’d share because I was thinking about you and how you might think that was a fun flower story! Or maybe you liked/wondered about it, too, and have garden space to plant it at home? Now you know where to get one!
This Week
The trail guide this week is from a memorable tiny hike that my friend, Ashley, introduced to me in January last year. I shared an Instagram post then, but it never made it to the blog or into a trail guide yet. You will be the first to get extended info from me on it! Thanks to Ashley for contributing some of these photos and for cheering me on to write it up for you.
THANK YOU for being here! I love sharing these trail guides with you each week.
If you haven’t already, please encourage your friends to subscribe! Your subscription dollars truly support my time spent on this newsletter — and my annual time is only half-covered with the number of current subscribers. If I spend 5 hours writing this per week (not counting my scouting hours!) then that’s a 260 hours per year commitment on top of the blog posts, Instagram and the free newsletter.
